Chap Hore passed away just days after his 82nd
birthday, and with him have gone many stories and a great
deal of unrecorded history of the Maniototo.
The Most Significant snowfall for 61 yrs fell in
late May over a narrow band of Otago which included the Styx
area and back blocks of Stonehenge. Photos.

Our first year has been very successful in achieving our main
objective of providing a viable alternative to the traditional
selling choices. We look forward to the new season with some
confidence. Peter Marshalls recent visit around the mills
overseas suggests a sustained period of good demand and better
prices.
Peter's view on the market
Here are a few notes that will help us provide you with a
better service:
Coring and testing must be carried out at approved
depots only (IE) owners shed, McLarens transport or the wool
dump.
Combining wools with another clip, this is fine but
please note all details on specification sheet IE. Bale No's
and with whom the line has been combined.
Testing can be carried out by PML
or SGS. All merino wool will be ODFA tested for micron. Any
testing by PML is under SGS certification with a fully certified
certificate issued bt SGS.
Please advise of any changes of address, fax, phone or email.

Clients
were invited to view a demonstration of the new O.D.F.A 2000,
and to see the PML mobile laboratory in action when it visited
Stonehenge to measure samples from a selection of rams and 2th
stud ewes.
The ODFA 2000 has the advantage of not only carrying out
all standard wool test measurements using a very small
greasy sample, plus measuring and profiling the whole length
of the staple, is easily transportable and specifically designed
to be used on the farm.

Peter Marshall conveyed the not such good news for the ½ bd
woolgrower - no immediate resurgence likely from present low
seems likely. Customers wanting finer, brighter, more light
weight product.
Contracts: a number available. Keep options open.
Things look more promising for Merino wool.
Drought over, good growing season, looking good for clip
colour, strength and weights.
Quality - don't let up on preparation standards.
Overwhelmed by participation in first season.

As part of the ongoing artificial
insemination program 2000 selected ewes were mated
to the latest imported sire:
- Merryville Ring Master 35th
- Moutere 2642.95

|
| 26 April 2000
Prior to going out with the ram
approx. 350 2th ewes were objectively fleece tested,
from which 60 were ruthlessly culled by Sue & Barbara
using the measured results: on micron, PF>1, CV>20,
SD>4.5 and if there were any survivors finally S.E.M.
(coarse edge).
The C.V. results from these ewes were consistently low
and particularly impressive, a testament to Jim's subjective
skills and confirming the high caliber of the stud stock
at Stonehenge.
